Shaylin Wallace: Under The Doodlescope
Jenkins Community Gallery
Under the Doodlescope presents artist Shaylin Wallace’s abstract, intuitive doodle artworks across digital illustrations, ceramics, textiles, and painting. Wallace creates abstractions that could be a vision under a microscope or a portrait of an expanding universe. The works capture her vision as it develops through an intuitive process in which abstract forms take on a life of their own.
For Under the Doodlescope, Wallace created a mural and invited the public to paint alongside her. At MoCA Arlington’s Art After Hours on October 3, visitors contributed to the project by filling in Wallace’s initial doodles with red, yellow, and blue, Wallace’s preferred colors. For Wallace, drawing is a means of calming her mind, her nerves, and her spirit. By inviting visitors to draw alongside her, she shares this meditative experience with the public.
Based in Washington, DC, Wallace has exhibited her work across the United States and internationally in Italy, Portugal, and Dubai. In the fall of 2023, she had her first solo exhibition at the Delaware Contemporary Platform Gallery. The exhibition centered on Wilmington, and her childhood home in that city. Since that exhibition, Wallace’s works have been exhibited throughout the Washington, DC, Maryland, and Virginia area.
