Y’ALL GO RHYTHM: Art Happening with Artist Negar Ahkami

Saturday / June 27 / 5pm - 8pm

Hosted during Art After Hours, Y’All Go Rhythm invites you to come dance and take part in this multi-media art event.

Artist Negar Ahkami will unveil her new series of art pieces that are also functioning dance platforms. The artwork is inspired by colors and patterns in Iranian art and architecture, and by the vibrant dancing in Iranian gatherings and holidays. In sharing her inspiration, the artist also invites people to consider our shared humanity and connections.

A DJ will help you feel the rhythm, with a mix of Iranian and American (and other) music. Y’All Go Rhythm may sound like the word Algorithm, but it is a call for IRL gathering and a command to channel rhythm and flow with dancing and tactile creativity.

Free, and open to the public. For all ages, at MoCA Arlington.

Negar Ahkami makes dynamic, ornate paintings and interactive multimedia works that are inspired by artistic influences of her family’s Iranian heritage, and by the interconnectivity and shared humanity of these influences. Ahkami holds an MFA from the School of Visual Arts, New York and a BA from Columbia University. She has exhibited at museums and galleries nationally and internationally including The Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, The North Carolina Museum of Art, the Bronx Museum of Art, and The Walters Art Museum. Her work is in the collections of The New Britain Museum of American Art, Depaul University Art Museum, Wellington Management Company, and others.
