AAC Summer Classes Filling Up Fast!

Now that summer is finally here, why not learn something new about yourself, about life, about ART(making)! For the Summer 2013 session we chose to combine favorites from past semesters with new classes never before offered by AAC. We’ve also got a fresh group of instructors who have creatively developed their own projects for our existing classes. Our hope is that this will give you the opportunity to revisit your favorites, while adventurously breaking out of your comfort zone to learn something completely new. We love to see our students return each season with the skills they’ve learned from past classes. It’s absolutely inspiring to see the different ways that they apply those skills to new classes.

We offer classes for all ages, and we’ve designed them to match the interests and needs of each age group. For new-comers, we have a range of classes that cater to a variety of skill-levels depending on what interests you.

Classes for children and teens are Monday through Friday, with a variety of options running from June 24 through August 23. To make it more convenient for parents of children aged 4 to 10, the day is split into two sections for beginning at 10 am through 12:30 pm and then again at 1:30 pm through 4 pm. We offer a supervised lunch break to students in consecutive classes and complimentary aftercare until 5 pm for students in afternoon classes so they get to spend the whole day at AAC!

For ages 4-6, one of our popular classes is “Color Capers” In this class, students begin exploring colors by creating a color wheel and learning about historic colorist techniques like Pointillism. Then they’ll have the opportunity to use the techniques they’ve learned at the easel. Enrollment is currently open but seats are filling up!

For teens we’re bringing back the popular photography class: “This Is My City – Arlington.” In this class, students learn the fundamentals of photography while exploring the urban villages of Arlington. As a field trip-based course, “My City” becomes a dual learning experience.  Students not only learn how to use a camera to record memories, but also how to express ideas, emotions, or points of view. Photos from “My City” will appear in a special exhibition at AAC in the fall. This is an exciting opportunity for students to show gallery visitors what they’ve learned. Teen classes are scheduled Monday through Friday from 1 to 4 pm or 1:30 to 4 pm.

Registration for adult classes is also open. This session runs from July 9 through August 29. We know it’s a challenge to fit classes into your schedule so we’ve scheduled courses in the evenings from 7 through 9:30 pm. AAC students are already showing a lot of interest in our new class: “Animated Dimensions: A Study of Space.” This introductory animation class begins by exploring the history of animation in pop culture. Then students have the opportunity to create their own animations using techniques like rotoscoping, cut paper, and pose-able characters.

Keep in mind that AAC members at the Family Level and above receive 10-15% off classes throughout the year. Click here for information on the benefits of membership.

As summer swoops down upon Arlington get ready to take a creative adventure with AAC. We strive to make our classes as diverse and varied as the arts themselves. Register for adventure now!
