PLACE: Calling Home

On View: January 20 - March 17, 2024

Jenkins Community Gallery

PLACE: Calling Home features work created by young people from the Columbia Hills and Columbia Grove communities during a series of workshops organized through a partnership between Museum of Contemporary Art Arlington and Arlington Partnership for Affordable Housing.

The workshops were taught by local artists Adam Henry, Margaret Jacobson, and Lianna Zaragoza and focused on the theme of “place.” Over the course of six workshops, the participants completed three projects that invited them to explore both their individual identity and their collective community identity. They explored the use of natural materials to connect to their surroundings, collaborated to decorate a five foot tall sculpture of a house, and depicted the places where they feel at home through using both representational and abstract approaches.

The PLACE: Calling Home workshop series and accompanying exhibition were funded in part by a PLACE Grant from the Arlington Cultural Affairs division of Arlington Economic Development and the Arlington Commission for the Arts.
