Arlington Weaves, Etc: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle
Jenkins Community Gallery, Lower Level
Reduce, Reuse, Recycle is ArlingtonWeaves, Etc’s attempt at being part of the solution to the problem of textile waste and the amount of fabric, yarn, and thread cones that finds its way into landfills. AWE takes a pause to consciously reflect on how we dispose of items in our textile life as we learn and enjoy the practice of Reduce, Reuse, Recycle for functional or aesthetic purposes.

About ArlingtonWeaves, Etc.
ArlingtonWeaves, Etc. (AWE) is an innovative service model that provides AWE Artisans with an opportunity to build their skills so they can generate revenue from the items they craft. AWE staff provide artisans with support to investigate their talents and interests while participating with like-minded creatives to celebrate the power of creativity, connection, and purpose.
AWE’s mission is to provide opportunities for artisans of all abilities to make, market, and earn income for their original and uniquely woven fiber works, and to create a more sustainable and socially conscious marketplace through community partnerships.
The program was conceived by parents of individuals with disabilities in the mid-1970s as part of the Arlington Adult Developmental Center. At the parents’ request, Arlington County assumed responsibility for operation of the program in the late 1980s. In 2003, Arlington County outsourced the operation of the program to a local non-profit agency. ServiceSource is the current service provider.
