Artist Talk at the Innovation Studio + Store: Bonner Sale

Wednesday / June 12 / 6pm

Join us for a conversation with current Innovation Studio Artist in Residence, Bonner Sale, and MoCA Arlington’s Curator & Resident Artist/Collector Liaison, Amanda Jirón-Murphy.

Innovation Studio Artist in Residence, Bonner Sale, discusses his practice and the work created during the residencyTroubled Magic: “Opens Into Another Solarium.”

Troubled Magic is a body of work years in the making, a tribute to the fantasy films and toys Sale enjoyed as a child, and the adventures made with those stories and ideas. Through gouache painting, Sale transports himself back to those worlds and tropes, and reimagines what he’s experienced in life into what he dreamt of as a child.

This capsule collection of painted mini figures, LAZER BRAINS utilizes several film, music and television characters deconstructed, recombined, and painted to create a new identity for the toys. Sale’s toy collection is lifelong and part of the work that’s been shared in this 6-week residency at the Innovation Studio.

“Enter LAZER BRAINS — The year is 2024, the planet of TROUBLED MAGIC has been invaded by the cryptic and illustive LAZER BRAINS, a ragtag group of mutants, ghouls, and robots ready to experience love and belong in our hearts…I believe all beings have a right to freedom and prosperity.”
~ Bonner Sale, Troubled Magic
