Oil Painting: Explorations in Impressionism
Working from still life and photographs, students will explore impressionistic oil painting techniques through a modern lens. In this course, students will be introduced to prominent historical figures and works of the 19th century Impressionist movement alongside contemporary artists working today. Focusing on color theory, atmosphere and mark-making, this course will provide a structured approach to observation and wet-on-wet paint application. Working through still life, landscape, and figure, students will learn to handle all types of content in a manner that prioritizes atmosphere, motion, and impression rather than realism and description.
