Mixed Media Mail Art

The early mail art movement started in the 1950s and consisted of art such as postcards, envelopes and more, united by how they could be circulated by mail. In this class, you will use mixed media (collage, paint, printmaking, and simple bookbinding) to explore a different type of Mail Art each week:

Artist trading cards
Postcards
Altered postcards
Collage greeting cards and embellished envelopes
Fold-up mailers
Junk mail journals

Instructor Jennifer Penick will also offer unique (and optional) opportunities to mail and exchange your art: you may choose to swap artist trading cards with classmates, to make a greeting card for someone in need, and to prepare a series of postcards to raise funds for a charity of your choice.

Mixed Media Mail Art uses minimal supplies and is good for all skill levels.
