Exploring Forms: Art School and Portfolio Prep Workshop: Ages 14-18

During this two-hour workshop for students interested in pursuing art in college or university, participants will explore one form through three distinct mediums and discuss best practices in photographing their artwork. Students will be introduced to dental alginate, a medium often used in medical practice. We will be removing this medium from its traditional context, and bringing it into a fine art framework to think about shape and form. After molding sculptures from the alginate, participants will create a plaster cast of their work. While the plaster is curing, participants will photograph their sculptures (remember to bring your smart phone or a camera!). Students will also explore their forms using charcoal in a 2D study.
