Watercolor Explorations

This eight-week course offers a judgment-free opportunity to explore watercolor through four distinct projects. We will begin with rendering abstract compositions by mixing oil-based crayons with watercolor. Next, we’ll engage in a more expansive exploration of watercolor by using additives, such as salt, isopropyl alcohol, and string. Building upon our discoveries, our next project will employ the previous strategies as we create decorated functional paper fans. We’ll round out our experience by adding to what we have learned to render large sunset compositions on paper. In each class session, a variety of techniques and strategies for experimenting with materials will accompany instruction in basic skills. Participants will take away a collection of varied works on paper.
